  3.     Sex steroids suppress LH secretion, primarily by means of negative feedback; FSH secretion is inhibited to a lesser degree. 
  4. Inhibin, a protein that is produced by the Sertoli cells of the seminiferous tubules of the testes and by granulosa cells of the ovarian follicle, inhibits FSH secretion specifically and more strongly than sex steroids.
